SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
STA values education of the whole child and we are proud to provide STA's students with a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum taught by our dedicated SEL teacher, Ms. Samarasekera.
Pre-K - through 5th grade classes follow the Second Step curriculum to learn about Skills for Learning, Empathy, Problem Solving, and Emotion Management.
The middle school uses the Sanford Harmony curriculum, developed by National University. The students follow 5 units: Diversity & Inclusion, Empathy & Critical Thinking, Communication, Problem Solving, and Peer Relationships. This curriculum is supplemented with the Teaching Tolerance Social Justice Standards. Students learn about Identity, Diversity, Justice, and Action.
The lessons students learn through the SEL curriculum carry into all core subject areas throughout the school day and beyond the classroom.
